This pic is for my Powell kids.

Later today, there are a bunch of kids a country away who'll begin their fall halftime show with someone else, not me. Of course I knew it would happen, but it still feels very unsettling. Guys, I hope by now you realize your good fortune at getting Mr. Milligan. I miss you every day, but I also know you're going to have a great year...so am I (I didn't even have to show him how to hold that saxophone correctly; he just did it!). Good luck in Hawaii! ; )

  • OMG we got kicked out of the office today. (IT'S ORANGE). I think Mr. Milligan hates us, but whatever, it's Senior Year. We stole all your business cards, pink pencil, stamps, and guard tape out of your desk. And of course Baby Chris knows how to hold that sax right, he takes after me :P

P.S. Courtney is crying over the picture as I type.

Love, OMGCOURTNEY, ANNIE, ERICA, AND TONY .. and stuff. We miss you guys...LOTS.

  • Few things match walking into a room as a freshman with a level of uncertainty you never knew existed, and thinking that the man standing at the front of the room feels the same way. I have a feeling the class of 2009 will do just fine, but speaking on behalf of the class of 04; We miss you tremendously, and wish you, Stacy, and CPF2 the best in everything.

    On a Different Note:

That office will live forever in our hearts and minds as a very tiny space that represented CPF as a man, a football fan, a movie buff, and classic cartoon devotee.

  • The office will never be the same and the man that touched their lives forever will never be the same! The kids will grow from this new experience but they will all remember cpf as will I. We all love you and your beautiful family and miss you terribly. The class of '04 they were your first class here in East TN and they all appreciate you. As for the classes of '06 and '07 they will very fond memories of the "Foleyisms". As for your devoted group of band moms we are wiping tears! CPF2 is PRECIOUS and of course he knows how to handle that saxaphone it's in his genes! Hug the family and hold them close and keep in touch!

  • We all miss you too Foley. Mr. Milligan gave the freshman, oh wait, new people (that's what we are supposed to call them now)and us cool guardies were there, and well, it's just odd. I just sat there listening and thinking "wow, I really miss foley." I don't even know what to call this guy. Mr. Milligan, Milligan, Spence? Who knows. Well, we all miss you. And the band room smells clean and the office is freaking orange

  • It actually hurts to see the things that once filled that office strung out around the band room. Especially that big saxophone picture, which is currently sitting on a table in the hall. The walls are orange, and it seems like a life force was taken out of it. That Mr. Milligan, he seems like a wonderful man, but he'll never replace you, Mr. Foley. No one can, even if some people refused to understand your methods up until the day you left us.

It's weird, though. Leaving for the field before nine in the morning for band camp. There is lack of long winded speeches this season... among other things. I miss those already.

Good luck, you guys. I hope the west is treating you well.

    Much love and admiration,
    Cori

  • I can not tell you how odd it was to see another director standing in the room I once called the band room when I went to the meet and greet June 22 let alone seeing the office that was once piled so high it was hard to think that anyone could ever find what he was looking for all cleaned out and empty. the first thing i looked at was to see how the office looked and almost walked out. but I do belive that this man will be a great replacement for the infamous Foley. Thanks for everything you did for the classes of the past five years. Hopefully everyone will realize how you have touched their lives. I know I sure have thanks a lot and good luck out there. keep in touch

  • FOLEY-O!!!

Hey man... how's life in seattle, rainy?! lol... well i know i didn't really march under you for a long time, but you know me... i was the band geek before i was in the band. I can vividly remember mac's first band camp and then going to his first football game, i remember sitting in the stands and being in awe. i couldn't wait to do it myself, and then i got to know you and thought you were just awesome, always funny, and always said the right thing at the right time. i'll never forget all those late nights out on the sidewalk with you and mom waiting for band peeps to go home, all the winterguard late nights and early mornings, and just all the memories period... you were an awesome man and still are, your spirit lives on with us... instilled in all of us and we will NEVER forget you. i wish you all the happiness and good times you deserve... and more.

  • HI! So yea it was definitetly weird walking into the band room and not smelling the band room smell and not see the office buried in paper, and other nonsense. It is orange..thats really disturbing but not as disturbing as seeing the new band director stand on the podium. I am glad I got to march with you for 4 fun years. CPF2 is absolutelty adorable...Have fun and take care!

  • Nice blog you've got here Mr. Foley! Hope you are doing well in Seattle right now;I hope you're having a good summer right now. Band Camp is now over but it went by way too fast! I miss your silly jokes. Its been alot of change, but it's been a really great experience, though like my comrades said it will never be exactly the same without your valentines day speeches, clever jokes, and your word of the day musings! Hope your wife and son are doing well, and gosh little Christopher has grown up fast!
    Sincerely,
    Nik ze Trombonist
P.S. I was elected band captain woo hoo!!
